This BIP course invites academics from NEOLAiA universities across all disciplines who teach through English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) to participate in an international and interdisciplinary professional development experience. Participants will explore a range of topics and tools relevant to teaching and learning in higher education, while sharing experiences and best practices in a collaborative academic environment.
The programme aims to empower academics to design inclusive, student-centred, and effective teaching practices in bi- and plurilingual higher education contexts. Participants will explore theoretical foundations, communication skills, digital tools, inclusive strategies, and assessment aligned with the principles of plurilingual education.

This BIP course aims to empower academics to teach content through EMI. Thus, it will train academics to design and promote bi- and plurilingual approaches that foster inclusive, engaging, and enriching environments for diverse students. To achieve this main goal, the following specific ones are pursued:
1. To understand the theoretical foundations of bi- and plurilingual education in higher education settings.
2. To improve academic and basic interpersonal communication skills (BICS) and pronunciation to facilitate precise and effective instruction.
3. To design lesson plans within student-centered teaching methodologies to improve engagement and learning outcomes.
4. To learn strategies to cater to diverse student needs and promote inclusive learning environments.
5. To design assessment instruments aligned with bi- and plurilingual education principles.
6. To explore best practices to foster intercultural competence and promote respectful communication in plurilingual classrooms.

This BIP course is specifically designed for academics from diverse disciplines who use English as the medium of instruction in their subjects.
Language requirement: B2

The course capacity is limited, and applicants are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis, with a balanced number of posts at each NEOLAiA university.

Obligatorio para todos aquellos alumnos que no tengan abonado el seguro escolar en el curso académico activo, siendo ambos incompatibles, debiendo abonarse una sola vez por curso académico. Mandatory on-site week (5 working days): Monday, June 15 – Friday, June 19 at the University of Jaén, Spain.
During the virtual component of the BIP course, participants will actively engage in a variety of activities to enhance their learning experience.
Each day of the on-site program will focus on one of the modules that make up the course and will be taught in morning sessions.

During the virtual component of the BIP course, participants will be actively involved in a variety of engaging activities to enhance their learning experience, using innovative methodologies and inclusive practices. These include the following:
• Participation in online forums where they can discuss ideas, share experiences, and ask questions related to bi- and plurilingual teaching strategies.
• Collaboration on joint activities, working together remotely to analyze case studies and develop best practices.
• Synchronous video conferences to facilitate real-time discussions, Q&A sessions, and interactive workshops with instructors and peers.
• Completion of various assignments designed to apply the concepts learned and reflect on their own teaching practices.
This virtual component will include 5 online sessions (one per module, 3 hours each), held once a week over the five weeks leading up to the in-person segment of the BIP.
Each day of the physical segment of the course will focus on one of the modules that make up the course.
Day 1: Theoretical underpinnings of bi- and plurilingual education
Day 2: Student-centered methodological options and new technological learning environments
Day 3: Academic and basic interpersonal communication skills (BICS) and pronunciation
Day 4: Catering for diversity in plurilingual education
Day 5: Alignment of teaching and assessment
In addition, cultural activities will be planned to foster team-building and enrich the academic experience.

  • Evaluación continua
  • Evaluation criteria: 70%: Attendance to and participation in the synchronous online sessions and in-person segment. 30%: Final task (evaluation criteria: structure and organization; expression; content; personal touch and originality; adequate register). This task requires participants to apply content from the five modules to their teaching contexts through a micro-teaching scenario and an oral presentation, with face-to-face discussions.

During the physical mobility phase of the BIP course, a variety of non-teaching activities are planned to provide participants with a comprehensive cultural and professional experience. These activities include a social program to visit local places, which will help participants gain a deeper understanding of the host city’s rich heritage and cultural diversity.
