     Tras los acuerdos de Bolonia de 1999 y la publicación del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas en 2001 (Consejo de Europa), Europa ha realizado una apuesta firme por el plurilingüismo. A raíz de ello, la certificación válida y fiable del nivel de dominio de lenguas extranjeras se ha convertido en una necesidad en todo tipo de enseñanza. Esta certificación del dominio de lenguas es fundamental para el reconocimiento mutuo de niveles entre instituciones de distintos países, como por ejemplo las universidades.

Los profesionales encargados de diseñar y validar los exámenes de certificación de dominio de lenguas, que tienen que armonizar aspectos tan dispares como la lingüística, la evaluación, la psicometría o la política territorial, aún hoy, más de dos décadas después, requieren una formación específica en el ámbito del diseño y validación estadística de exámenes de dominio de lenguas.

Orientado a un alumnado internacional, el presente curso pretende cubrir esas necesidades detectadas no solo en España sino también en muchos países de nuestro entorno.

     This two-week course will cover key issues in language test design. During the first week we will discuss the main components of a validity argument: construct, specifications, component design (listening, reading, writing, speaking, interaction and use of language), validity arguments and ethics through both theoretical and practical sessions in which participants will have the opportunity to create their own items, tasks and tests.

During the second week we will focus on the statistical analysis of aspects related to validity arguments. We will use both Classical Test Theory and Item-Response Theory to analyze facility values, discrimination indexes, internal reliability, variable maps, and we will see how analytic scales can be statistically validated through logistic parametric models. No previous knowledge of statistics is necessary but it will be helpful for those participants who wish to take full advantage of the course. The course will be held in English but its theoretical and practical contents can be applied to test development and validation in any language other than English.

The number of participants is limited to 15. This course is aimed at international professionals and students with an interest in test design and language assessment who want to learn how to design language proficiency tests and how to construct their corresponding validity arguments. This course is particularly suited to those professionals who have no prior knowledge of statistical validation but who need such knowledge in their careers. The course is also suited to professionals with previous knowledge who would like to deepen in practical areas of test development and test analysis.

Since the course will be held entirely in English, a minimum B2 CEFRL level is necessary. Participants may be asked to prove their entry level and to describe their interest in assessment.



Participants must
• be over 18
• have a university degree
• have an interest in language proficiency test development and validation
• have a minimum B2 CEFRL level in English.

El alumnado matriculado en esta actividad puede participar en la Convocatoria de Becas de Formación Permanente 1er. cuatrimestre del curso 2023/24. La Resolución se publicará en el Centro de Formación Permanente y Formación Complementaria - Perfil de Estudiantes en Becas y Ayudas

Week 1:

    - Introduction. 0,40 Créditos ECTS. Obligatoria

    - Listening comprehension. 0,40 Créditos ECTS. Obligatoria

    - Mediation I. 0,20 Créditos ECTS. Obligatoria

    - Mediation II. 0,20 Créditos ECTS. Obligatoria

    - Oral and written production. 0,40 Créditos ECTS. Obligatoria

    - Reading comprehension. 0,40 Créditos ECTS. Obligatoria

Week 2:

    - Statistical Analysis. 3,00 Créditos ECTS. Obligatoria

This two-week course will have 10 sessions. Most of these sessions will include 3 hours of theory and 1 hour of practical work with a 30-minute break. In the theoretical slots of the sessions, key conceptual aspects will be presented and participants will be asked to contribute with their own experience in the discussion. These theoretical aspects will be practically applied in the second part of the sessions. During the practical sessions, participants will design their own items, tasks and tests and will be able to analyze data generated in their own institutions. Participants will have the opportunity of creating and analyzing new tests and of sharing their previous work with the rest of the attendants. Computers will be necessary for the second week. The Universidad de Jaén will provide participants with the necessary computers and pre-installed software, chiefly Word, Excel, SPSS, Winsteps and Facets. Participants who want to use their own laptops will have to make sure that they have access to the aforementioned software because the University of Jaén will not provide individual licenses.
