Presentación

New technologies have represented a great advance in improving the quality of life of millions of people in areas as relevant as information, social and political participation or health. However, these technologies also present a dark side that can lead to serious threats to those same assets.
Among these threats we can highlight how fake news and misinformation in general or the misuse of artificial intelligence can violate rights as relevant as the right to honor or privacy, the right to receive truthful information, or can even alter democratic processes. or pose a risk to public health.
For all these reasons, national governments and EU authorities have been designing all kinds of strategies and regulations for some time to try to alleviate these negative effects of new technologies.
In view of the above, this course aims to ensure that students are informed of these threats and the main instruments that are being implemented to confront them.

-Analyzing the mechanisms by which disinformation acts and the hidden intention of those who spread false news and hoaxes of all kinds
-Informing the students of the course about the threats that new technologies can represent for some human rights such as the right to health
-Reflecting on how new media can alter democratic processes
-Studying the rights to freedom of expression and information and its limits, especially in relation to the prevention of hate speech
-Making the students aware of the main measures that are being implemented by the European Union to try to confront these threats.
-Raising awareness of the need not to give credit or share unverified information

  • Seguro escolar. Obligatorio para todos los menores de 28 años, cobrándose en Estudios oficiales, una sola vez por curso académico.
  • Seguro accidentes UJA. Obligatorio para todos aquellos alumnos que no tengan abonado el seguro escolar en el curso académico activo, siendo ambos incompatibles, debiendo abonarse una sola vez por curso académico. Afecta a todos los alumnos de estudios oficiales y no oficiales (Grado, Máster, Tercer Ciclo, Enseñanzas Propias y Cursos Cortos)

The course is made up of three parts, the first in person and the next two online.
In all three parts, students will be asked to attend classes and actively participate in them. They must also prepare three papers of about 1000 words each (one for each part of the course). The final grade will be the average of the partial grades for each part.
